Module 3
The Voice Palette
Learning objective: a detailed understanding of the Voice Palette feature and ability to use the Voice Palette voices in every way possible.
3b--How to use the Voice Palette
When a stop is activated the active voice (VP0, VP1, VP2, or VP3) is displayed on the screen for about two seconds.  While the stop name is displayed the voice can be changed to any of the other Voice Palette voices.

Immediately after turning a stop the display shows:
To change the Voice Palette voice turn the VALUE knob before the display returns to the home screen.  If the Voice Palette display goes away before you are able to change the voice, simply turn the stop off and on again, then turn the VALUE knob.
The name of each Voice Palette voice will be displayed and can be played immediately to audition the sound.  If other stops are on you will hear the effect on the ensemble sound of the different Voice Palette voices for the stop being auditioned.  Here are the three Voice Palette voices for the 8' Principal stop:
When the desired Voice Palette voice is displayed, simply push the VALUE knob to exit the menu and return to the home screen.  The Voice Palette voice you selected remains active until a subsequent action changes it (see unit 3f).

If you intend to use the registration you just created, the registration must be saved in combination memory on a General or Divisional piston so that it can be recalled later.

It is important to remember that the particular Voice Palette voice that is active at any given moment is very dynamic--any of the following actions can change the active voice for any stop:
    • Pressing a General or Divisional piston
    • Pressing the Default Stops piston (not available on all models)
    • Pressing and holding the General Cancel piston (resets to the Default Voice Palette)
    • Changing the Organ Type (Organ Type piston or in the Organ Type menu)

This dynamic nature of the Voice Palette voices is explained in much more detail in unit 3f.
Key Concept--when you recall a General or Divisional piston the Voice Palette selection for each stop that was saved when you set the piston will now be active, regardless of any prior actions, such as changing the Organ Type or resetting to the default stops.
Another way of stating the Key Concept is that General and Divisional combination memory captures the current Voice Palette setting for each stop in addition to which stops are on.  This assures that the precise registration/sound that you saved using various Voice Palette selections is always recalled for that piston.

To view the active Voice Palette voice for a stop that is on, turn the stop off and then back on--the Voice Palette information will be visible in the display for about two seconds.

A lighted tab or draw knob blinks when manually turned on to indicate that an alternate Voice Palette voice (VP1, VP2, or VP3) is active.
